America the Wonderland is an elaborate historical pictorial map 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle depicting the United States in 1941. The creator, American illustrator Ernest Dudley Chase (1878-1966), was well known for his meticulous attention to detail on greeting cards and pictorial maps during the first half of the 20th century. He created nearly 50 pictorial maps in his lifetime from his studio in Winchester, Massachusetts. In his pursuit of perfection, he viewed his work under a magnifying glass, used a tiny pen and a stippling technique which combines tiny dots to form an image. This colorful pictorial map is a superb example of the painstaking nature of Chase’s work. America the Wonderland is Chase’s depiction of the lower 48 states, their man-made and natural landmarks and monuments, and all that he considered to be “wonders” in America in 1941. The original historical artwork has been very slightly altered to produce this puzzle. All illustrations are original. Comes with a full-size poster.
